East Atlanta

The community of East Atlanta is 3 miles east of downtown Atlanta on I-20, and has a rich history. During the Civil War, Union troops actually had a front line along what is currently Flat Shoals Road in the East Atlanta Village. After the war, the area became an unincorporated town and steadily grew. This vibrant area is convenient to many shops and restaurants and even has three music venues of its own. Brownwood Park adds to the family-friendly atmosphere, as well as nearby Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta. The location also makes it convenient to other downtown attractions such as Turner Field and the Georgia Dome. The East Atlanta Community Association has been in place since 1981 and has been a great asset to this culturally diverse community. The housing market is very active and offers a wide-range of choices, from Craftsman style bungalows to stately postwar houses and new construction. Prices range from the $100s to the $300s. East Atlanta is also home to Kingfisher Academy for grades Pre-K through 8th and the East Atlanta Kid’s Club, a non-profit enrichment program for children who live in southeast Atlanta.
